Course Length: 2 years.

Aims

The aim of this course is to prepare students to succeed in management positions that leverage computing technology to operate and expand business endeavours. The course will provide educational opportunities to information professionals for the 21st century, as the world moves from an economy of stand-alone companies to interdependent enterprises connected by the products of a global information infrastructure. The needs of existing IT managers, programmers, developers, network engineers, and other IT workers who aspire to move upward into technical management positions will be catered to with the emphasis on exploiting information technologies for productivity and competitiveness.

Objectives

Upon completion of this course, graduates will possess:

§  An informed and reflexive perspective on management;

§  Certification as a Novell Certified Linux Engineer (Novell CLE);

§  Knowledge of, and the ability to apply, a range of key management related principles and practices (principally those associated with: general management; change management; strategic management; Human Resource Management; Finance; and Marketing);

§  Advanced skills in the development of computer systems or the design, implementation and management of networks;

§  Higher order system administration knowledge and skills;

§  Problem-solving skills and methodologies when troubleshooting and documenting complex computing problems;

§  The ability to analyse complex client business and technical requirements and select appropriate solutions, and

§  Skills in the development of leading edge solutions that meets customer business objectives for functionality and performance.

Course Structure

The Course consists of 12 subjects with a total value of 96 points. For students that do not qualify for any credit, the recommended duration to complete the Masters Degree is 2 years. There are 3 trimesters per year and we recommend a commitment of 2 subjects per trimester.

Graduate Certificate in Management (Information Technology)

The Master of Management (Information Technology) is an articulated course that incorporates the Graduate Certificate in Management (Information Technology).  The certificate can be stand alone or, upon successful completion, students may proceed (with full credit) into the Master of Management (Information Technology).  To graduate with the Graduate Certificate, students must satisfactorily complete 4 subjects, which include two industry certification subjects.

Important Note

The Novell Industry Certification Subjects are only available for credit and are not available for study via Distance education with Charles Sturt University.   Credit for Novell industry certification subjects will be awarded on proof that the students have passed the relevant Novell industry certification exams.

Credit
