2310C: Developing Web Applications in .NET 3.5 Using Microsoft Visual Studio 2008

This course provides students with the knowledge of the fundamentals of web application development and best practices for Microsoft web development technologies including ASP.NET 3.5, ASP.NET AJAX Extensions, and Silverlight. Students will learn to create a component using Visual Basic or Visual C#, as well as add functionality to ASP.NET web forms that contain server controls. Furthermore, they will become trained in accessing and manipulating data using ADO.NET 3.5 and the built-in data access tools, as well as data that is stored using Extensible Markup Language (XML). Students will also be able to create and extend an ASP.NET AJAX application and Silverlight-based applications that deliver dynamic content. In addition, students will be skilled in calling a web service from an ASP.NET web application and incorporating the returned data into a web application, then storing this application and session data using a variety of methods. Finally, students will be able to secure an ASP.NET web application using a variety of technologies including authentication and authorisation.

 

Audience

The course is intended for introductory-level Web Developers as well as Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) or classic ASP Developers who want to learn ASP.NET 3.5 and other Microsoft web development technologies.

Prerequisites

Before attending this course, students must have knowledge of HTML or DHTML including tables, images and forms. Furthermore, students need to have programming experience using Visual Basic or Visual C# including declaring variables, using loops and conditional statements. It is also recommended that students have completed Microsoft course (4994) Introduction to Programming Microsoft .NET Framework Applications with Visual Studio 2005.
