6420: Fundamentals of a Windows Server 2008 Network Infrastructure and Application Platform |

Course Length: 5 days.
Overview This course introduces students to network and application infrastructure concepts and configurations provided by Windows Server 2008. Students studying this course will be able to acquire a fundamental understanding in order to pursue advanced topics available for certification in the network and applications infrastructure areas. After completing this course, students will be able to describe the fundamentals of an enterprise networking environment, typical roles of IT professionals in an enterprise and TCP/IPv4 configurations, protocols and tools. In addition, students will be able to describe the fundamentals of communication technologies, basic security concepts for server roles, how to secure network traffic and the functions included with Windows Server Virtualisation (WSV). Furthermore, students will be taught how to create and configure an IPv4 and IPv6 address range and subnet. Finally, students will be able to configure Windows Firewall, remote access, test network load balancing and network print resources and printing pools.
Audience This course is intended for new IT employees or Desktop Support workers moving into server support. The information in this course allows them to acquire a fundamental understanding of Windows networks to pursue advanced topics. This course is also beneficial for those migrating from competitive platforms to Windows Server 2008.
